Recently I have been interested in creating blurb books. I have made two of them and had wanted to create a portfolio type of book. It has taken quite a bit of research and finding photographs of the different events that I participated in. I have just about found all of the photos and will probably get started on the book either tonight or Sunday night. It will be great to go back and look at what my favorite things and get a better idea of what I want to do with my life. I have some ideas but it will take awhile to be able to accomplish my ideas and goals. I have learned it is best to accept this because each day I am getting closer and finalizing my goals.
The Perfect Wedding Venue
I plan on posting my blurb book link once it is finalized.

Staying positive in a negative environment
First I shall tell you a little bit about myself. I am a college grad with a degree in Marketing and Management and I chose to go to a school that had a high placement percentage. Unfortunately once it got closer to graduation I realized the high placement was due to the students and not so much the school. In order to go to the school you make a choice of either putting yourself in a ridiculously large amount of debt or work really hard juggling a job and school. In my experience students tend to work harder and receive better grades when they are working for their education. In my current job position I have met a lot of people who are upset with their current positions in life. It is not just the recent graduates who feel this way but many people of all ages.
There are many things I have learned from my current job and also things I learned in school that have been reinforced at my current job.
1. A job is a stepping stone:
It is very rare that you will find your dream job right after you graduate. While in school I was constantly being told how you will wear many hats through out your life. It is important to remember that each job you have you can be a learning experience. It is also important to remember that no job is beneath you because it is a job. You get paid and it's another step along the road to your next job or next career.
2. You have to find happiness in your life:
I have met many unhappy people and sometimes their negativity can be draining. If you are able to find happiness in your life it is a lot easier to be happier with your current place in life. There are many people who seem lost and aren't sure which way to go or what they want to do with their life. Usually all they do know is they aren't doing what they thought they would be doing. This ends up leading to some very depressed people. Thankfully while I was in school I had a teacher tell me and the rest of the students that after graduation many people go through a stage of depression because for the past couple of decades you were constantly going to school and had everything written out for you. Once it is time for graduation you are thrown out into the world and expected to make it in the real world on your own. With Generation Y some are able to accomplish making it on their own while others move back in with their parents. Happiness is the key to whichever path you are on.
3. Live well below your means:
It took quite a bit of life experiences to learn this important key to life. Once you learn this life will be a lot easier. I know this is not the easiest concept for people and it takes giving up a lot but in the end it is much better for you. You will always run into people who will constantly tell you they are poor but they are always going out to eat, going out drinking, shopping and spending money that they really should not be spending.
There are some very simple rules to follow when you are starting out in life.
- Don't waste money going out to eat. You may be living off of cheap food which can be boring but it wont always be that way. The money you save from not going out to eat definitely adds up.
- Don't go to the movie theater. For two people you will spend at least $50 for one movie that can add up if you go to even just one movie a month.
- Don't go out drinking. This is actually a big key factor because lots of people go out and want to have fun with friends. My suggestion of course is still to go out but instead of getting a drink just get a water. It's a lot cheaper this way.
- Say no to retail therapy. I had a large problem with this but it is possible to break the habit, and trust me if i can break it anyone can. If you have friends that enjoy going shopping every weekend you are still able to go with them, just make sure you leave your cards and cash at home. If you don't have any money you can't buy anything. I know this can be tricky but it gets easier the more times you go . In order for me to kick my shopping habit I actually stopped going to the mall and other stores. I took myself out of the situation and trust me when I went shopping with other people it was very difficult to not purchase anything. It takes a lot of self control but it can be done and once you are free from feeling the need to go shopping all the time you will feel better.
- Learn the difference between needs and wants. I suggest looking up Maslows Hierarchy of needs to refresh your memory or if you have not heard Maslows Hierarchy. Many people have difficulties with the difference between needing something and wanting something. You need food, shelter and clothing but you don't need a lot else.
- Try and save at least 10% of each paycheck. It is not always easy to save money but it is very important. You should also save at least 3 months in an emergency savings fund in case you are to lose your job, get sick, have car problems. That emergency savings will save you from the poor house as long as you have it.
- I have learned it is a lot easier to host dinner parties especially when your friends invite you out to dinner. It is much more intimate and the food is usually better.
- Pay your bills. Pay them on time and if you have debt pay a little more then the minimum.
Spending less than your monthy income assists you in saving more.
4. Trust that each person has their own path for their life:
Just because your friends have a career, are married, or are having kids does not mean that you need to be on the same path. Every person will get to different points in their life at different times and it is important that you don't worry about not being where you are supposed to be. This brings out negativity in some people because they feel that they should be doing the same things their friends are doing.
5. Opportunities are everywhere:
It is important to understand that you have to know what you want and put yourself out there. Apply for jobs that sound interesting. Go in for interviews for jobs that you may not be qualified. You can not let fear keep you from trying. In school and through my internship I was taught not to keep 3 years of experience as a requirement keep you from applying for a job. Many companies will train the right person. Taking chances is really important especially when you are job hunting. If you don't know something required for a job research it so you have a better understanding. You also have to expect more of yourself. Look inside and see what skills you possess and what makes you a good employee.
I must go off to my job so I will leave you with this last bit of advise. Work hard at no matter what job you have do the best that you can because it will leave you with a good recommendation and you never know who may come into your job looking for hard working employees.
